THE Zambia Police Intellectual Property Unit (IPU) has arrested Mike Bwalya Chibale, aged 45, of Silverest area in Chongwe for dealing in counterfeit KoPa replica jerseys.
The IPU has seized 89 suspected counterfeit replica jerseys from Tich ‘B’ Investments shop which belongs to Chibale in Kamwala area of Lusaka, Football Association of Zambia Communications Manager Sydney Mungala confirmed in a joint statement issued with Zambia Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga.
They were valued at K40, 050.
Chibale is expected to appear in court soon for selling fake KoPa branded jerseys.
He becomes the second person to be arrested for selling fake replica jerseys after a Chinese was sentenced to nine months imprisonment with hard labour for selling fake replicas in February 2018.
Meanwhile, FAZ General Secretary Reuben Kamanga has cautioned all traders deceiving the public by selling fake products to watch out.
“May I take this opportunity to warn all traders, who are deceiving the public by selling counterfeit products to desist from this vice as the law will soon visit them,” Kamanga said.
“The Football Association of Zambia is the rightful holder of the replica jerseys branded KoPa which is legally registered.”
Kamanga encouraged people to buy authentic products being sold at FAZ and authorised dealerships.
