FIVE people have been arrested in connection with the fracas which happened at the Patriotic Front Secretariat in Lusaka on Saturday
The suspects have been charged with malicious damage to property and assault on self-proclaimed PF commander Innocent Kalimanshi.
According to police, the suspects were arrested in the early hours of yesterday.
Police spokesperson, Esther Katongo, identified the suspects as Keith White Musonda aged 45, Bright Musonda aged 38 both of Kasupe area, Gift Lupiya 35, of Chawama Compound, Nephter Sinyangwe Mulenga 45 of Kanyama and Kelvin Chisanga aged 34 also of Kanyama compound.
She said on May 1, this year at 11 00 hours, police followed up a report that Mr Kalimanshi 40, had forced his way into the PF secretariat using a Ford Ranger.
Ms Katongo said the action did not go well with the PF cadres who extensively damaged Mr Kali-manshi’s motor vehicle and assaulted him.
Mr Katongo said in the process of whisking him away, a police motor vehicle registration number ZP 2600B was also damaged and one officer identified as Sargent Siita Akakandelwa was injured by cadres who begun throwing stones.
She said investigations have continued while the suspects remain detained in police custody.
Ms Katongo warned that shall not tolerate any criminal conduct and that anyone who would be found wanting would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
“What political players need to know is that the law is blind and does not look at any individual’s political affiliation as no one is above the law,” she said in a statement.
