By GIDEON NYENDWA

GOVERNMENT must administer the Public Order Act (POA) in a fair and professional manner in the campaigns for the forthcoming Kabwata by-election, says the Southern African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD).

SACCORD Executive Director Boniface Cheembe said that there must be professional administration of the POA so that all candidates and parties are given an opportunity to market their manifestos and messages to electorates peacefully.

Mr. Cheembe also appealed to all political parties and candidates to refrain from engaging in any acts of political violence and violent communication during the campaigns.

He said in a statement that all the political parties and candidates should make sure that they follow the electoral law.

Mr. Cheembe also urged the Zambia Police Service to provide adequate security to all political parties and their candidates and ensure that there is proper harmonisation of the campaign schedules.

SACCORD congratulated all the political parties and candidates who filed their nominations for the forthcoming Kabwata by-election. Particularly,

He said that as SACCORD they welcomed the fact that the filing process was largely peaceful.

“This is how it should be,” he said.

Seven Kabwata constituency parliamentary candidates filed their nomination for the January 20 by-election.
