WE do not want to fight you because our President wants peace, the PF in Lusaka has told the UPND.

PF Lusaka province chairlady Margaret Mumba told journalists at the Lusaka Magistrates Court complex yesterday that it was sad that the UPND was allegedly provoking the PF deliberately to force the ruling party to react and paint its members as violent.

Ms. Mumba also charged that the UPND was lying about last Saturday’s Memorial Park fracas because PF members accused of instigating the fight were not even present at the graveyard.

“Our members were the first ones to arrive at the Memorial Park. We didn’t provoke them, they are the ones who provoked us. We don’t fight, we are clean because our President is a Christian man who doesn’t like violence.

“He wants peace. If President Lungu was encouraging violence there could be chaos in this country because we are the majority. Our members who have been accused of causing that fight were not even at that funeral. There were only branch and ward officials and these people they are mentioning are provincial officials. They shouldn’t tell lies,” Ms. Mumba said.   She said the UPND should just swallow their pride and accept that President Lungu was the duly elected President of Zambia and nobody else.

“I am condemning that fight because there is no way there could be only UPND at the cemetery. There is no way we should make a timetable for political parties to bury their loved ones on different days. We are all Zambians and this issue of fighting is the one which caused the MMD to lose elections because people don’t like fighting.  “That is why we tolerate the UPND and just look at them because if I were to send my boys today to go and beat them they would beat the hell out of them but we don’t want that because our President doesn’t like violence,” she said. And PF Lusaka province vice information and publicity secretary Nathan Phiri said the PF youths would not allow anyone to attack ruling party members regardless of their position in the party.   “We as PF youths shall protect each and every member of our party regardless of their position in the party because our President doesn’t preach violence.  He preaches peace, we emulate him and we want to say no to violence.”
