It’s my house – Maureen Mwanawasa

By GRACE CHAILE
FORMER First Lady, Maureen Mwanawasa has contended she is the legal owner of late President Levy Patrick Mwanawasa’s retirement property, and has advised University of Lusaka limited, to claim for refund from vendors it purported had bought the property.
In this matter, University of Lusaka Limited (UNILUS), has sued the Attorney General and all other unknown persons, demanding summary possession of the Mwanawasa retirement property as the rightful owners.
UNILUS claims it bought the property from previous owners, Ms Esther Chipasi and Mr Mustapha Kwabena Osuman at a cost of US$2,190,000.
UNILUS registrar, Kawanga Kapalayi, stated that the company bouhgt Lot no.24802/M in Chongwe in February, 2023, at US$2, 190, 000 and a sale agreement was executed.
Mr Kapalayi stated that the right legal procedure was followed in that a deed of assignment was subsequently executed, lodged and registered at the Ministry of Lands and the property in question was assigned to UNILUS.
He however lamented that unknown persons had continued to occupy the property without the consent of the applicant (UNILUS) or the previous owners (Ms Chipasi and Mr Osuman).
Dr Mwanawasa prayed to the Court to dismiss the application for summary possession by UNILUS.
