WE HAVE NO TIME FOR REVENGE – UPND

By KETRA KALUNGAx

WE have no business pursuing the agenda of revenge and vendetta against individuals once we form the government, the UPND has said.

UPND Presidential adviser, Antony Bwalya, said once in government, the UPND would be busy rebuilding the economy and putting it back onto the path of progress and prosperity.

Mr Bwalya said in an interview that UPND President Hakainde Hichilema has made it very clear that he would focus on fighting against corruption, social and economic injustice, hunger, and unemployment among others.

He however said that if there were individuals who committed crimes in the course of executing their duties, the law itself would take its course.

Mr Bwalya said the UPND would not interfere with the administration of the law or how it should be applied to individuals who commit crimes.

“We have always insisted that the law enforcement agencies must function independently and must be accountable to the Zambian people, not the executive, not the President,” he said.

Mr Bwalya said the UPND would ensure that all critical institutions of governance have the right levels of independence for the purposes of enhancing accountability and transparency.

“The primary key occupation of the new government and new republican President is rebuilding the economy and putting the country back onto the path of progress and prosperity,

“So, all of those stories that you are hearing about revenge and vendettas that are just rumour mongering and we think that is intended to tarnish the image of the new government, Zambian people themselves will be the judge,” Mr Bwalya said.
