THE master mind of the post-election violence which left several people maimed and their property destroyed in Namwala last year has been arrested by the Police in Southern Province.

Southern Province police commissioner Bonnie Kapeso confirmed that Mr. Maybin Kakoto aged 32, a driver of Hakalimamushi, Chief Mungaila of Namwala village district, was arrested on Friday at Maamba bus station in Choma.

Mr. Kapeso said Mr. Kakoto had been eluding a police dragnet following numerous reports of political violence during the 2016 post-election violence which left many people injured and their houses set on fire.

The Commissioner told Sunday Nation in a statement that Mr. Kakoto was facing several criminal charges  relating to his conduct before, during and after the general elections.

Mr. Kapeso said Mr. Kakota would soon be taken to court after police conclude their investigations while he remains in police custody.

He has commended police officers in Southern Province for arresting several suspects who have been on the run.

Mr Kapeso said the police officers in Southern province had created confidence in members of the public to trust that their lives and property shall remain protected without fear or favour.
