…says President Hakainde Hichilema means well, urges government officials, civil servants to support the President’s efforts to deliver to the expectations of Zambians

By NATION REPORTER

DANTE Saunders has urged government officials and civil servants to support President Hakainde Hichilema’s efforts to deliver to Zambians who are yearning for development and economic prosperity.

And Mr Saunders has urged Zambians, irrespective of their political affiliation to take personal responsibility and become whistle blowers against suspected corruption in government without leaving the fight against graft to President Hichilema alone.

Mr Saunders, a senior citizen and long-time political activist says President Hichilema is being overworked and it was upon government officials and civil servants to help the head of State deliver to the expectations of Zambians.

Breaking his silence on governance issues, Mr Saunders said government officials should not let President Hichilema to continue running all sectors and institutions single-handedly while at the same time dealing with an overload of work of governing the country.

Mr Saunders, a board member of the Zambians National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) said President Hichilema meant well for the country and should be given the support so that he could deliver development to the people he was governing.

“President Hichilema means well for Zambia but he needs the support of all government officials and civil servants if has to deliver to the people. This President (Hichilema) is being overworked and you can see from his physical being…there are signs of stress because the President is being overworked. My fear is that you cannot leave the President continue running all institutions while at the same time bear the burden of governing the country and attracting investment,” Mr Saunders said.

And Mr Saunders has urged Zambians to take personal responsibility and become whistleblowers against corruption in government.

Mr Saunders said the huge investment being attracted into the country would not help in growing the country’s economy if the scourge of corruption was not going to be cured.

He said it was the responsibility of every Zambian to help fight against corruption by reporting all suspected corruption crimes to law enforcement agencies so the perpetrators could be brought to book.

“I wish to urge Zambians that we should start to strongly speak out against corruption otherwise the huge investments being attracted into the country shall amount to nothing. Let us all as Zambians be whistleblowers whenever we suspect or see corruption being committed. Those who shall be found wanting, especially those who are currently being pursued and have been arraigned before the courts of law should be set as examples of why corruption should be detested,” Mr Saunders said.

He said he had confidence in the Anti-Corruption Commission, the Drug Enforcement Commission and the Police who collectively were pursuing corruption suspects.
