POLICE CONTINUE DETAINING CHAMA

By ADRIAN MWANZA

POLICE have once again failed to take former Defence Minister and PF acting secretary- general Davies Chama and his co-accused, Brian Nyoni, to court as the docket was not ready despite holding the duo for almost two weeks.

Their lawyer, Mr Tutwa Ngulube said the case failed to take off because the docket was not ready making it difficult to proceed and even apply for bail.

Mr Ngulube said he would today apply for a writ of habeas corpus because his clients’ rights have to be respected.

He said they would today file in a writ of habeas corpus in Livingstone for the two to face a judge.

Mr Ngulube said the case failed to take off because the docket from the National Prosecutions Authority was not yet in.

Mr Ngulube said he was shocked with what was going on because the head of State had indicated that a person’s right should not be infringed upon.

He said that it was unfortunate that the police having charged the two, they should have been released on police bond.

Mr Chama and Mr Nyoni have been accused of attempted murder of Mr Mushaukwa Mushaukwa in Mulobezi in 2015.

Mr Nyoni was arrested upon arrival from Addis Ababa where he was working as a driver at Zambia’s High Commission.
