UPND MILITIA PROBE CONTINUES

BY GIDEON NYENDWA
INVESTIGATIONS into alleged militia activities by the UPND have continued, Police has said.

Police spokesperson Esther Katongo has said the police instituted investigations into reports of UPND recruiting 60,000 youths amilitias.
Ms. Katongo said that the police have received a report on the matter.

“Yes a report was received and an inquiry is ongoing,” she said.
PF Media Director Antonio Mwanza confirmed that a report was given to police concerning the matter.

Mr Mwanza disclosed last week at a press briefing that the UPND were organizing 60,000 youths in Lusaka to cause mayhem on the 10th and 11 August in Mandevu compound.

Mr Mwanza said the youths were being trained as militia at a hidden place in Nega Nega, Southern province.

He also said that the ruling party had so far identified two places in Chawama where the recruitment was being done from.

Mr Mwanza said the UPND were training young people and grooming them into a militia specifically to unleash them on the 10th and 11th August to disrupt the peace in Lusaka and the Copperbelt.

Mr. Mwanza said the UPND were doing this to intimidate and instill fear in people in the PF strongholds to ensure that voters do not turn up on elections day.
He said that the matter had been reported to the police.
