We are not going to take the people of Kabwata for granted when choosing the person who will stand on the party’s ticket in the upcoming by election, UPND Chairperson for elections Gary Nkombo has said.
Mr Nkombo said the party would consider the submissions from the grassroots in order to come up with a suitable candidate that would help the party return the seat which fell vacant after the death of Levy Mkandawire the law maker that was involved in a road accident outside his house in Woodlands.
He said they were in a competition and that they had to ensure that they returned the seat at all costs and that they needed not to relax.
‘’We are not going to relax or take the people of Kabwata for granted that is why we listening to the grassroots because they are the ones that know,’’ he said.
Mr Nkombo said that they had received overwhelming response from people that were eyeing the seat but that they had not yet come up with a consolidated number.
He said some had not come out forward to give their stance on the way forward and that this is why it was hard to pinpoint the exact number of interested people.
Mr Nkombo however said that he was confident that the party would return the seat because the people of Kabwata had shown confidence in them.
‘’I know that the people of Kabwata still has confidence in us and they are not going to let us down just as we are not going to do so,’’ Mr Nkombo said.
