FIFA dangles hefty perks – as Copper Queens guaranteed K600, 360 for incoming World Cup finals

COPPER Queens players are guaranteed to pocket US$30, 000 which is equivalent to K600, 360.94 in local currency as one of the participating teams at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup slated to kick off next month in Australia and New Zealand.

FIFA has directed participating member associations (PMS) to reward each individual player from the squad of up to 23 players based on team performance.

The global soccer governing body confirmed that the allocation dedicated to player’s prize money and all funding distributed by FIFA will be subject to audit.

FIFA has also confirmed that in addition to the US$31 million preparation funding already distributed to all PMAs, an additional US$110 million has been allocated to the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023 to be distributed to PMAs on the basis of team performance in the tournament.

FIFA reminded PMAs to use the funding which represent an increase of almost 300 percent on 2019 and an increase of almost 700 percent on 2015, towards tournament costs and football development investment.

In a statement to participating member association, FIFA Chief Women’s Football Officer Sarai Bareman noted that teams which will fail to go past the group stage are guaranteed US$1, 560, 000, with players set to pocket US$3, 000 each.

Teams to finish the competition in the round of 16 will walk away with US$1, 870, 000 with players getting US$60, 000 while players to reach the quarter finals will walk away with US$90, 000 each of the US$2, 180, 000 top eight teams will pocket.

Bareman said the increased investment is aimed at furthering the development of the competition and the women’s game in general, as well as facilitating a more equitable distribution of funding allocation to players.
