Sata fumes over links to UPND

By ADRIAN MWANZA

FORMER Lusaka Mayor Mulenga Sata has dispelled rumours that he has filed in his application on the UPND ticket for the vacant Kabwata constituency parliamentary seat after the tragic death of MrLevy Mkandawire.

Mr Sata said in an interview that he had been flooded with phone calls that he had applied for the seat on the UPND ticket when he had not.

He said that he had not applied on any ticket and that people needed to stop peddling lies about him on matters they had no facts about.

“What I can tell you is that it is a lie that I have applied for the Kabwataseat and I want to challenge those that are claiming to bring the application,” he said.

Meanwhile, UPNDAlliance spokesperson Leslie Chikuse has said he was ready to succeed Mr Mkandawire if the party saw it fit to represent them in the upcoming elections.

Mr Chikuse said that he knew the constituency very well and that he was ready to stand on the UPND-Alliance ticket.

He said that there were a number of people that were aiming for the seat but that he was hopeful that he would be picked on the UPND Alliance.

Mr Chikuse said that he had lived in the constituency for over 30 years and that he had risen through the ranks.

“I have not yet been adopted but I have tendered in my application and I’m very hopeful that I will be considered on the UPND ticket,” he said.

Mr Chikuse said that he was confident since he rose through the ranks from constituency chairperson, ward development chairperson, resident development chairperson and knew the constituency very well.
