Esther loses appeal to suspend case in forfeiture of property

THE Court of Appeal has dismissed an application by the former First Lady, Esther Lungu, to suspend proceedings pending appeal, in a case in which the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) is seeking a Non-Conviction Based forfeiture of her 15 flats for allegedly being tainted property.

Ms Lungu through her lawyer, Ms Dessislava Findlay had submitted that it would be in the interest of justice to stay the proceedings in the lower court because of among other issues on appeal, is a challenge on the jurisdiction of the Economic and Financial Crimes Court and permission to cross examine the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) senior investigations officer, Emmanuel Khondwe to test the veracity of the evidence against her.  CLICK HERE TO READ MORE
