A SIAVONGA woman is nursing serious wounds in hospital after she was axed on the neck by her husband, who is on the run.

The woman, of Maunga Village in Chief Sinadambwe’s area was axed in the neck by her husband after a domestic dispute.

Both Chief Sinadambwe and Ward councillor Syden Mweemba confirmed the incident to the Daily Nation in Siavonga and called for the arrest of the perpetrator.

Mr Mweemba said when he and other community members rushed to the crime scene, they found the woman unconscious in a pool of blood before they took her to the clinic.

Mr Mweemba said the woman is admitted at Chaanga Rural Health Centre awaiting medical evacuation to Siavonga District Hospital for treatment.

The unnamed woman  was axed on Sunday morning by the husband, Winston Chasale who escaped the neighbourhood watch dragnet after the attack.

“Ye,s I can confirm that a woman in my ward was axed on the neck by her husband Winston Chisale of Maunga community and he is on the run. Winston beat his wife and later when he saw that his wife was unconscious he axed her in the neck,” Mr Mweemba said the woman was only saved by  a passerby who alerted the community. He added that cases of Gender-Based violence are on the rise in his ward because of the absence of a Police post in the area.

Mr Mweemba however said the community members have mobilised themselves and with money obtained from the CDF are constructing a Police Post at Chaanga Centre to curb crime.

Meanwhile, unidentified people have burnt down two sorghum storage sheds   and a grocery shop belonging to Isaiah Chiyaba and Toffin Hamunkala, all of Halunyona Village in Chief Sianadambwe’s area in Siavonga.

The two properties were gutted on Sunday, around 23:00 hours and nothing was retrieved from the fire.

The owners of the burnt buildings are suspected to be practicing witchcraft and it’s suspected that the assailants were members of the hired Caravans well known for killing elderly people who are suspected to be witches.

The victims, who are both in their late 70s are said to have been away from their homes when the incident happened.
