A COMMISSION of Inquiry should be set up to probe judges allegedly scheming to collude with disgruntled politicians to bring confusion in the country, says Third Liberation Movement president Enock Tonga.

Mr Tonga urged the Government to establish a commission of inquiry and investigate some Constitutional Court judges who were allegedly scheming to bring about the breakdown of law and order in Zambia.

He said according to the Republican Constitution, judges could not be fired and it was only through a commission of inquiry that it could be established whether or not some members of the bench had fallen short of what was expected of them.

In an interview yesterday, the opposition leader said establishing a commission of inquiry would be good for Zambia as it would help identify erring judges.

“As Third Liberation Movement we propose to the Government to establish a commission of inquiry as that is the only way that will prove who these judges are and whether or not they have fallen short of what is expected of them,” he said.

He said President Edgar Lungu was on firm ground and that he was acting on reliable and impeccable intelligence information when he advised the judges not to go the Kenya way, which had potential to bring about breakdown in the law and order.

Mr Tonga said the Law Association of Zambia should not just condemn but provide guidance and interpret the constitution.
