THREE NABBED OVER MEDICAL DRUGS

 POLICE in Mushindamo district have arrested three men for being in unlawful possession of medical drugs.

Confirming the development, North Western commissioner of police Auxensio Daka said the three were arrested yesterday around 18:00 hours at St Dorothy in Mushindamo.

He identified the suspects as Gideon Kalumba, Martin Lunda and Sam Mulenga all of Chingola on the Copperbelt. He said the trio were found selling assorted drugs at the market.

‘’Yes, I can confirm that we arrested three people in Mushindamo for being in unlawful possession of medical drugs,’’ Mr Daka said.

He said the suspects are also suspected to be prohibited immigrants of Congolese origin and are in police custody pending appearance in court.

Meanwhile, five suspects have escaped from police custody in Solwezi.

Mr Daka said the incident occurred yesterday around 03:00 hours at Kyawama police station and identified the suspects as Swizzy Mutungulu, Nawa Kawisha, Chola Chola, Francis Malichinga and Kennedy Kaoma.

He said the suspects escaped after damaging the grill door to the police cells.

‘’The incident happened at the time when there was a power blackout. So the suspects took advantage of the situation and over powered the two female police officers who were at the station at the time the incident happened,’’ he said. He said the suspects passed through the inquiries office and ran away despite officers firing warning shots.
