Zambian female boxer Merody N’gona beat Ukho Nkele 5-0 in the final to mint Gold.

THE Zambia Boxing Federations (ZBF) has praised the under-20 national team boxers for minting three gold medals and two silver medals at the 2021 Region Five games in Lesotho.
In an interview, ZBF president Dan Chiteule said the boxers have made the country proud by shining at the youth games which had attracted the best young boxers from Southern Africa.
Chiteule said their performance in Lesotho signifies a bright future for Zambian boxing.
“We are very proud and very happy about the perfomance of our boxers. Big ups to the boys and girls for flying the flag of mother Zambia so high during the games in Lesotho.
“We are building a foundation for boxing and this is a good start. We have the Commonwealth Games in July. We have the 2024 Olympics to prepare for and this is a perfect start,” Chiteule said.
Chiteule hailed the technical bench led by coach Maybin Gunduzani for inspiring the young boxers and promised that the executive will do more in future engagements for the sport to continue going forward.
Three female boxers in Merody Ngoma, Elizabeth Phiri and Mary Mhango collected the three gold jmedals for Zambia while male boxers Mathews Singonogo and Mwengo Mwale bagged silver medals.
Singonogo and Mwale lost out on gold after losing 4-1 respectively to South African boxers Siseko Tevise and Moyisi Bool in the finals.
Merody N’gona beat Ukho Nkele 5-0 in the final to mint Gold while Elizabeth Phiri and Mary Mhango also beat Magaya Veliswa and Luyolo Nketehea in their final bouts to mint gold medals as well.
