Wife who blacklisted hubby’s phone number divorced

A 37-YEAR-OLD man testified in a local court in Lusaka that his wife, who was a maid, allegedly blacklists his phone number when she goes for work and would come home late.

Likezo Sitali of Makeni Villa was testifying in a case in which his wife, Irene Simasiku, 28, a Security Guard sued him for divorce.

The two got married in 2008 and have one child.

Simasiku told Senior Court Magistrate Mubukwanu Matakala sitting with Magistrates Abbyshine Michelo and Esther Mulomba at Kanyama Local Court that all was well and that Sitali was working at Armco Security but he was jailed in 2010 for five years and that when he was freed in 2015 he started beating her that she was coming home late where she was working as a maid.

She explained that last week, she was surprised that Sitali packed his belongings after he got his benefits and left the matrimonial home.

In defence, Sitali said that problems started in 2015 when Simasiku was a maid because she blacklisted his phone number and that she was coming home late.

He explained that from March 2017, Simasiku has been sleeping in clothes and that sometimes when he insists to make love to her, she would push him outside the house, subjecting him to sleep at neighbours.

“Simasiku called the landlord and told him that she will not make love with me until she dies even at Victim Support Unit she said that she doesn’t want me,” said Sitali. But Simasiku said that she blacklisted Sitali’s number because he was insulting her.

Asked by Simasiku if it was not just for a week when she said that she can’t make love because she was not feeling well, Sitali said that Simasiku has been denying him conjugal rights since March 2017. Magistrate Matakala said that marriage should have love and that if there is no love it becomes difficult because the court heard that from March they haven’t made love.

He granted the couple divorce without compensation but Sitali has been orderedd to be paying child maintenance fee of K400 per month. Households acquired together are to be shared equally.
