3 DANGEROUS CRIMINALS ESCAPE

THREE dangerous criminals have escaped from lawful custody at the Livingstone Central Police Station in unknown circumstances.

The criminals who escaped using a blanket to jump out of the highly secured police cell were facing offences of murder, aggravated robbery and theft.

The suspects whose escape has left many police officers at the Livingstone Central Police Station shocked appear to have been aided by officers.

According to information obtained by the Daily Nation, the three criminals whose names have been withheld escaped from custody in the early hours of Monday morning.

Sources within the police have disclosed that the suspect who was facing a murder charge has been in detention for one month while the one facing aggravated robbery has been in custody for 18 days.

The other one facing a charge of theft has been in custody for few days and all the suspects were never taken to court.

“Three suspects escaped from custody on Monday morning and we really don’t know what happened,” one officer said.

“Two of them were handcuffed while in police cells but they managed to uncuff themselves and left the handcuffs on the scene,” said the source.

And when contacted for a comment,  Southern Province Police Commissioner Bonny Kapeso confirmed having received the report.

Mr. Kapeso who was attending the commissioning of the Monze Correctional Facility in Monze could not give more details but advised the Daily Nation journalist to get details from the officer commanding Mr. Timothy Kashinakazhi at Livingstone Central Police Station.

But Mr. Kashinakazhi was not available to provide the details by press time.
