The Early distribution of farming inputs which has coincided with Independence Day celebration has been described by farmers in ChadizaDistrict of Eastern Province as an ‘Independence gift’.
Speaking when Neria’s Investiments Limited General Manager, Martin Chaikatisha conducted a fact finding mission to access the input distribution exercise, Mr Kenan Phiri of Ndapsya cooperative said it was good to celebrate independence day with farming inputs already distributed.
And Mr Chaikatisha is happy with the whole process of redeeming of inputs up to distribution. He has commended the UPND government for ensuring that the process is well implemented for the sake of promoting national food security by preparing the farmers adequately through timely input distribution.
He said the timely input distribution signifies the freedom that was fought for in terms of giving farmers the freedom to create their own food security through agricultural efficiency.
“I am happy that we are witnessing that farmers are redeeming inputs very well here. It’s quite gratifying to note that Chadiza is a hive of activity. It’s basically part of the freedom our forefathers fought for, to enhance food production by delivering the inputs early,” Mr Chaikatisha said.
Meanwhile, Chadiza District Agricultural Coordinator (DACO), KabangeMasenga has advised farmers not to misuse the farming inputs and to also use certified seed in order to promote agriculture production. He is optimistic that like always, Chadiza is poised to produce a bumper harvest as a result of efficiency with the input delivery programme by government.
He further thanked Neria’s Investiments for meeting the target of ensuring that all the 80,000 bags of both D compound and urea meant to benefit 14,710 farmers are distributed to the district on time.
“We want to appeal to the beneficiaries to utilize these inputs appropriately and efficiently, so that they can have good yields,” Mr Masenga advised, and further thanked government for creating an enabling environment to facilitate for timely distribution of inputs.
