HAKAINDE Hichilema’s desperation for the Presidency is shocking as he has even failed to listen to the numerous international observers who monitored the 2016 general elections, says Chief Chikwanda of the Bemba-speaking people in Mpika.

Chief Chikwanda said that the UPND leader, Mr Hichilema should emulate former President Michael Sata who accepted the election results without causing havoc.

He pointed out that the late President Sata had lost the elections twice but that he had to soldier on and fight another day for the sake of national peace even if he suspected foul play.

Chief Chikwanda however said that the desperation being exhibited by the UPND leader to be at the helm was extremely shocking.

He wondered why it was still hard for Mr Hichilema to accept the outcome of the last elections when all international observers, including SADC, had declared it free, fair and transparent.

Chief Chikwanda reiterated that there was no need for anyone to become adamant about the electoral process in Zambia, which he said was transparent.

“It’s a surprise to me because even since Zambia got independence, no leader has been adamant when it comes to the electoral process, someone should just accept. The people who were monitoring the elections, including SADC, European Union and others all accepted the election. But why should someone be adamant?” he questioned.

Chief Chikwanda said that the last elections were clear that President Edgar Lungu won, as attested by the number of provinces where he scooped the most votes.

He explained that the opposition UPND can only boast of being victorious in three provinces while the rest where scooped by the ruling Patriotic Front.

Chief Chikwanda advised Mr Hichilema to go back to the drawing board and identify where he had gone wrong to lose the election.

He emphasised that it was extremely shocking why the UPND leader was claiming victory on an election which every Zambia could clearly see who the true winner was.
