Munda wanga cries for help

GOVERNMENT needs about U$10 million to revamp the once flourishing but now deserted Munda Wanga Sanctuary and Botanical Garden in Lusaka, says Ministry of Tourism and Arts permanent secretary Liya Mutale.

Dr Mutale confessed that Munda Wanga botanical garden which was at one time the beauty of Lusaka was deserted.

She blamed the previous management at Munda wanga gardens for the mess the facility had found itself in.

Dr Mutale said this at the launch of Munda Wanga clean-up campaign in Lusaka, aimed at revamping the facility.

She said that her ministry was committed to bringing Munda Wanda back to life and that it was the reason she had organized staff at the ministry and well-wishers to clean up the place.

Dr Mutale said that the clean-up at Munda Wanga would be an on-going exercise and that staff would be required clean the place every month.

“Munda Wanga was not like this, the place looks really deserted as you can see. It’s all because of the previous management, they stopped taking good care of this place. And from today onward we will be coming here every month to clean this place” she said.

Meanwhile, Dr Mutale said that he ministry would carry out fund raising exercises to help with the revamping of Munda Wanga.

She said that Munda Wanga was profitable and that there was need to take it back to the level it was before.
