Government triggers nation-wide fumigation

GOVERNMENT has embarked on a nation-wide fumigation exercise to arrest worsening COVID-19 situation.The exercise is spearheaded by the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) in collaboration with the local authorities.According to a statement by the DMMU media team, the nationwide fumigation of all government buildings was underway in all the 10 provinces of Zambia following a directive by the Secretary to the Cabinet that all offices be disinfected to arrest escalating cases of COVID-19 recorded in the last one week.“In Lusaka, DMMU working with the Fire Brigade swung into action to fumigate the government’s largest office complex at the Cabinet Office, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Home Affairs and Parliament Buildings among others.In Southern Province, fumigation has been done in Choma, Livingstone, Monze and Mazabuka Districts while in the rest of the Provinces, only provincial centres have begun the exercise.All the provinces are expected to wind up the fumigation exercise by Sunday so that public service employees find the offices disinfected as they report back for work on Monday next year,” the statement reads.
