POSTDOTNET has raised K1 billion in capital funding from the SMEs sector, proving the potential the sector has to growth in Zambia, chairman Cuthbert Malindi has said.

Mr. Malindi said the strong investor interest in the company increased the potential of local small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to overcome capital constraints.

He advised SMEs to work towards attracting capital to their businesses for increased growth.

“There is need for SMEs to capitalize on efficient service delivery by establishing unique and creative partnerships. This will put them in a strong position to deliver superior customer value, guaranteeing sustained liquidity and attracting strong investor interest,“ he said.

He said the growth and sustainability of Zambia’s economy depended on a strong small business sector that would create more jobs, provide more revenue for the national Treasury, and ultimately alleviate poverty.

He explained that despite the massive potential the SMEs sector had of growth in Zambia and the investor appetite in local SMEs, there was still a gap in helping these sectors working together.

He lamented that it was disappointing that the sector was not being given the opportunity to address the niche areas of economic growth.

“We see a strong appetite for investors in local SMEs with the emergence of businesses that are geared to meeting specific needs of economic growth, and this can only be done if a common platform is created for the sector,” he said.
