THE meet-the-President fundraising gala dinner to be held in Lusaka this month end is meant to sustain the youths and stop the syndrome of begging, says PF Lusaka youth chairman Kennedy Kamba.

In an interview with the Daily Nation, Mr Kamba said youths in Lusaka Province came up with the fundraising venture initiative whose essence was to raise funds to empower the youths as well as for party mobilization.

Mr Kamba said youths decided to invite President Lungu because he had the heart for the underprivileged especially the youths and he was a father of the nation who understood the challenges the youths were faced with.

He said the money which will be raised would be put to good use especially for youth empowerment programmes and there will be transparency in the allocation of the funds to all the structures.

“We are going to make sure that that whatever will be realized from the dinner will be shared among the structures in Lusaka Province. The idea is not to be plotting into people’s offices to be begging for money, but to raise our own money so that we meet our needs without inconveniencing people,” said Mr Kamba.

Mr Kamba said there were a lot of youths who have engaged themselves in entrepreneurship such as block-making, carpentry and joinery, including car washing, to sustain their lives.

“This is why we have come up with such activities so that the money that will be raised can be used to empower our own youths,” he said.

Meanwhile, PF national chairman for youth and security Stephen Kampyongo said he will also create a link between the PF youth wing and the Ministry Youth and Sport to build the capacity of the party’s youths to run business ventures.

The meet-the-President initiative will be extended to the Copperbelt and Central provinces before rolling it out to the rest of the country.
