You have demonstrated the ultimate measure of man in times of challenge: to be magnanimous in defeat.
It matters for losing presidential candidates to concede, though the act does not have legal consequences. It matters because words matter. Adherence to established electoral norms, such as conceding defeat, helps prop up democracy.
From our history as a democracy, we learnt from the late Dr. Kenneth Kaunda, as well as President Rupiah Banda that conceding defeat is a harbinger for peace. You have therefore made us proud to do the same.
May the good Lord continue showering you, and your family, blessings as you transition from President of the Republic of Zambia to former Head of State. We shall always call upon you for counsel from time to time.
