Nyirenda to form party

By Mukwima Chilala

Former National Restoration Party (NAREP) faction president Steve Nyirenda has announced that he will form a political party as he no longer wants to associate with a party that has been engulfed in wrangles for the last three years.

The leadership wrangles that have engulfed NAREP following the departure of founder Elias Chipimo Jr, which saw the party breaking into two factions, have now come to an end after the two factions signed a consent judgement.

Some party members in 2019 expelled the president, Mr Nyirenda and installed his deputy Charles Maboshe as interim president but Mr Nyirenda refused to step down. But after signing the consent judgment in court yesterday to discontinue the case, Mr Nyirenda said he has decided to leave the party to his rival faction.

and would in the next two weeks be launching a new political party.

And NAREP Secretary General Ezra Ngulube says the consent judgment is victory for the party and that his executive committee would now be reclaiming their rightful positions in the party and continue with the UPND alliance.
