VILLAGERS TO EXHUME, RELOCATE ANCESTRAL GRAVES TO PAVE WAY FOR MINING ACTIVITIES AT GRAVE SITE

VILLAGERS of Mulungwa village in Sinazongwe District of Southern Province will have to exhume and relocate ancestral graves to pave way for mining operations at the graveyard by African Power Coal Limited.


Sinazongwe Town Council Chairperson Cliff Siachibweka has confirmed the development to journalists in an interview.


Mr Siachinweka however, did not indicate if the affected families will be compensated for each grave that will be exhumed or not.


He disclosed that the mining activities in the area by African Power Coal Limited have so far brought good and positive development to the local people.


The Council Chairperson said so far, the road network, construction of bridges in the area have been made accessible and open to investment.
And African Power Coal Limited Project Consultant Mubanga Mwansa announced that his company has plans to invest more than US$ 2.5 million in developing a high grid large scale coal mining activity in Mulungwa village.
Engineer Mwansa further said that the company targets to employ over 1000 people once fully operational.
