THE Lusaka Boys Secondary school management is allegedly sending away pupils coming from areas which have been declared cholera epicentres.

Pupils spoken to at the school yesterday confirmed that management was sending away some of their colleagues who were coming from cholera prone areas.

The pupil whose identity has been withheld for fear of victimisation said an announcement was passed by the deputy headmistress to the effect that pupils coming from cholera declared areas should not report for school until next week.

The students expressed sadness that their colleagues had missed a lot of lessons following the decision made by the school management.

Efforts to get a comment from the head teacher a Mr Mtonga proved futile by press time as he was locked up in a meeting and his secretary advised the reporter to come the following day.

A check at the school located in Longacres area found pupils and teachers going about their normal academic activities and a bucket of water and hand sanitizers were spotted.

“Yes it’s true the announcement was made by the headmistress that pupils coming from cholera prone areas should not report for school until next Monday. It’s really sad because our friends are missing out on lessons,” complained one of the pupils.

And some parents who contacted the Daily Nation said the decision made by the school was regrettable as it was discriminatory and that it would make pupils coming from cholera prone areas to be victims of undue intimidation.
