LUSAKA Dynamos coach Patrick Phiri has hailed his team for progressing to the semifinals of the K350 000 rich Barclays Cup tournament after humbling Kabwe Youth Soccer Academy 1-0 on Sunday at Nkoloma Stadium last week.

Striker Marvin Jere scored the only goal of the game in the 45th minute to send Patrick Phiri’s boys to progress to the semifinals.

Speaking in a post-match interview, Phiri said that he was proud of his boy’s performance despite having struggled to beat the FAZ Division one zone three representatives Kabwe Youth Soccer Academy.

Phiri said Dynamos will now aim to win the tournament.

“It was a tough match but we are happy to have progressed to the next round. I’m happy the boys played well and now our target is to work extra hard to win the Barclays Cup,” Phiri said.

Dynamos will wait for the winner of Wednesday quarter final fixture between Zesco United and Kitwe United who will complete the quarterfinal fixtures when they clash at Nkana Stadium.

Meanwhile NAPSA Stars caretaker coach Linos Makwaza who is standing in for head coach Tenant Chilumba who was sent on a four weeks forced leave, said the pensioners will prepare adequately for their semifinal fixture.

NAPSA set up a date with last year’s Barclays Cup runners up ZANACO after beating Green Buffaloes 3-2 on post-match penalty shoot outs.

ZANACO were granted automatic qualification after their opponents Power Dynamos withdrew from taking part in the competition.

“I would like to congratulate the players. They worked extra hard like we expected. Buffaloes is not an easy team to beat,

“We could have won the game in the first half but we missed a lot of chances. But what is important is that we are through to the semifinals and we will prepare well for the game,” Makwaza said.

Barclays has invested massively in this year’s competition with the winners expected to pocket K350, 000 while the runners-up will walk away with K180, 000.

The man of the match prize has been put at K5, 000 while the player and coach of the tournament will pocket a sum of K15, 000 each.
