Careful with operatives peddling lies – HH warned

By NATION REPORTER

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema should be careful with operatives that are fanning lies about his predecessor because it will create a rift that will be hard to fix, New Congress Party (NCP) President Peter Chanda has said.

Mr Chanda in an interview said that there were a number of individuals who were feeding the president with lies about his predecessor.

He said Mr Hichilema needed to get a leaf from late Levy Mwanawasa who fell in the same trap and persecuted second republican president Frederick Chiluba because he was misled by people with hidden agendas.

“It’s really sad that the current president is going in the same trajectory if I were him I would look at the likes of Mr Mwanawasa who tormented his colleague because he was influenced by people that did not have his interests,” he said.

Mr Chanda said the Chiluba debacle which was a witch hunt boomeranged in their faces because despite the huge efforts that were put in no tangible results were yielded.

He also said that people were coming up with trumped up charges just to fix Mr Lungu and that it was up to the president to show maturity and not be swayed.

Mr Chanda said that he should emulate Mr Lungu who instead of pursuing the late fourth republican president Rupiah Banda who had a number of charges levelled against him he embraced him and sought counsel.

“If you remember very well Mr Banda and his wife had serious issues but President Lungu made sure that all cases were thrown out and he even focused on his developmental agenda rather than persecuting people,” he said.
