GOVERNMENT should devise a clear road map on intentions to conduct continuous recruitment of health workers to reduce the shortage of personnel in health facilities, Resident Doctors Association of Zambia President, Dr. Brian Sampa, has said.
Dr Sampa said the government had not yet outlined its targets on the number of health workers it intended to recruit over the next four years, which was the expectation of stakeholders in the health sector.
Dr Sampa said the need for health workers being employed was still great as the ongoing recruitment of 11, 276 would not completely reduce the number of unemployed health workers and the deficit in health facilities.
“The ongoing recruitment exercise by the government is commendable as efforts are being made but a lot still needs to be done to meet internationally acceptable standards,” he said.
