Mutati hails First Lady for supporting athletes

FINANCE minister Felix Mutati has hailed the first lady’s’ commitment to promoting athletics in Zambia.

Speaking during a press briefing on the minister’s participation in this Saturday’s Intercompany relay, Mutati said there was need to support the event as it will help the Zambia Amateur Athletics Association ZAAA raise funds for athletes who have qualified for various international championships.

“Let me acknowledge the acceptance by the first lady to supporting this Saturday’s event as the guest of honor. We are there to support her in this noble cause,

“Our role is simply to support ZAAA in raising funds for the various athletes who have qualified for international championships including the London world championships,” Mutati said.

The minister who will run in the relay said local athlete’s needs to be supported as they represent the nation when taking part in international championships.

He has therefore called on CEO’s from various companies to assist in raising funds for athletes who have qualified for international championship.

“Let’s contribute generously for our athletes to be able to successfully participate in various championships to make Zambia proud. This is one of the corporate social responsibility the corporate world can participate in,” Mutati said.

Meanwhile Zambia Amateur Athletics Association ZAAA president Elias Mpondela commended the minister for accepting the invitation to participate in this year’s intercompany relay.

Mpondela said the event was a guiding force in raising funds for international engagements in which Zambian athletes were expected to participate.
