PF CADRES ARRESTED

TEN Patriotic Front (PF) cadres have been arrested and are being held at Mufulira Central police for allegedly disrupting a National Democratic Congress (NDC) meeting on Sunday, Copperbelt Province police commissioner Charity Katanga has confirmed.

Ms Katanga said the 10 cadres from Ndola had since been charged with riotous behaviour and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

In an interview with the Daily Nation, Ms Katanga said according to the report from the police officers who visited the scene, the cadres went to disrupt the meeting held at Mufulira Hindu Hall and chaired by Mr Mwenya Musenge and Mr Chishimba Kambwili.

Ms Katanga said during the confusion, cadres broke the large 2.14-metre window pane valued at K3, 000 at Mufulira Hindu hall, among other property.

She said upon receiving a report on what had transpired, police swiftly moved in and arrested the unruly suspected PF cadres.

“The incident happened on Sunday, November 12 at 15:00 hours. Police followed up the matter and arrested 10 people of which one person identified as Stanford Lambwe, 28, of Ndola has been charged with malicious damage to the property and nine have been charged with conduct likely to cause breach of peace,” said Ms Katanga.

Meanwhile, Ms Katanga said Mufulira deputy mayor Beatrice Kapasa grabbed Inspector Cheembo from Mokambo police by the shirt for restraining her from entering the inquiries room where the NDC leader and his members were lodging complaints of malicious damage to the property.

Ms Katanga said police advised NDC members not to get close because there was confusion. She said Ms Kapasa has not been charged.

“When police officers tried to restrain her from entering the inquires office, she grabbed Inspector Cheembe’s shirt,” said Ms Katanga.

And Mufulira PF district youth chairperson Victor Mithi said, confusion started when NDC members and their Mr Musenge started conducting outdoor advertising which likely turned into a political rally.
