The Anti- Corruption Commission (ACC) has challenged Amos Chanda to report to the police if he strongly suspected that ACC were the masterminds of the theft when his car was broken into.
ACC Spokesperson Queen Chibwe said the Commission followed the law and that if he felt that there was some involvement by some ACC officials in the theft of his personal items, then he needed to report the matter to the police because that was theft.
MR Chanda said at the weekend that he had lost money amounting to K64, 000, title deeds and other documents which were in one of his vehicles.
And in a strange development, Mr Chanda’s laptop bag containing his personal issues was discovered by an Evelyn Hone College student.
Mr Chanda told the Daily Nation that
he was shocked to find an ACC search
warrant among the recovered items, yet
the document had not been served on him and should not have been among his items
He however said he only managed to recover a few things like drivers licence, Passport, two title deeds and voter’s card while he lost K64, 000, Laptop, IPad, documents with government emblem, private contractual documents and employment records which vanished after the illegal search. Mr Chanda also said an unserved warrant was discovered in the bag which was found near the Railways Clinic in Lusaka, which was very questionable. But Ms Chibwe said the best Mr Chanda could have done was to report the matter so that they can help solve this riddle because as far as she was concerned the ACC had followed the right procedure when dealing with the matter. “My plea to Mr Chanda is for him to come out openly that he is suspecting the ACC of any wrongdoing and report the matter so that a lasting solution can be found,” Ms Chibwe said. She said the ACC had nothing to hide and that the truth would be found but it was up to Mr Chanda to expedite the process.
