Stop blackmailing farmers, SAFADA tells gov’t

By NATION REPORTER

SMALL-SCALE Famers Development Agency (SAFADA) has accused government of blackmailing farmers for them to sell their maize to the food reserve Agency (FRA).

SAFADA executive director, Boyd Moobwe accused the ministry of Agriculture of threatening to remove all the farmers that were not going to sell their maize to FRA from the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP).

He said it was unfortunate that the government has taken the route of threats instead of engaging the farmers in a good way.

Mr Moobwe said Zambia was a free market economy and anyone was free to sell their commodity to the highest bidder.
