ONE hundred and seventy six lower division clubs from five provinces have benefited from the kit distribution programme by the Football Association of Zambia aimed at improving the standard of soccer in rural areas.

FAZ digital media officer Sydney Mungala confirmed this to the Daily Nation Sports in Lusaka.

And FAZ executive committee member Brenda Kunda said FAZ would fulfill its promise of rewarding lower division clubs with football kits in all the 10 provinces of Zambia.

Speaking during the delivery of jerseys and soccer balls to North Western Province clubs at Chiko Inn, Kunda called on clubs to emulate Lumwana Radiants and work hard so that they could play in the Super League.

“We are a working FAZ, we are just doing what we promised, there are a lot of other things we will be able to do along the way,” Kunda said. And North Western Province Amateur Football Association (NWPAFA) chairperson Arthur Kamulosu commended the association for supplying clubs with kit.

He however urged FAZ to consider helping the provinces with the creation of playing fields.

Kamulosu also urged the association to help engage the mines on the possibility of sponsoring Division I and II leagues.

And Solwezi district commissioner Rose Kamalonga said the gesture by FAZ to donate jerseys to lower division clubs would motivate teams to work harder.

Mansa district commissioner Royd Chakaba urged FAZ president Andrew Kamanga to continue guiding the association in a transparent manner. Chakaba said Government was happy that lower division clubs were getting a slice of the FAZ cake, noting that he was aware of how difficult it was to manage a club from an individual’s resources.

So far, 32 clubs from Muchinga, North Western, Northern and Eastern province have received their set of jerseys while Luapula has seen sixteen teams benefiting from the kit distribution program.

Lower division clubs in Southern and Western provinces will receive theirs soon.
