It’s not too late to boost Covid-19 vaccination drive – Pharmacist

By KETRA KALUNGA

IT is not too late for the country to enhance the Covid-19 vaccination campaign and reach the 70% national coverage target, Pharmaceutical Society of Zambia (PSZ) president, Kennedy Saini has said.

Mr. Saini said the country has struggled to meet the target because it missed the opportunity to convincingly educate people on the importance of the vaccine which is voluntary so that they could make an informed decision.

He said in an interview that it was not too late for the country to step up its sensitization programs to get more people willing to be vaccinated.

“We didn’t do a good job in terms of convincing people to get the jab, vaccination is voluntary so people have a choice to either take it up or not,” he said.

Mr. Saini however urged Zambians to be vaccinated to protect themselves and the country as a whole because failure to cooperate would affect the outcome of the national vaccination campaign.

He has urged stakeholders involved in the vaccination drive to lead by example and get vaccinated and ensure that the vaccines are made available in public places such as markets among others.

Mr. Saini further urged employees to come up with work based policies where employees who decide to be vaccinated are given off days as a way of encouragement.
