THE church should not summon the Head of State whenever they feel like talking because the Ministry of National Guidance and Religious Affairs was created for such purposes, Bishops Council of Zambia (BCZ) secretary general Able Kaela has charged.

The church leader said that in as much as the church had the obligation to advise the President of national matters, they ought to understand that the highest office was mostly busy. He reiterated that the President could not be meeting the church every time they had an issue as he had other issues of concern to attend to. Rev Kaela explained that the Ministry of National Guidance and Religious Affairs was created to work with the church on behalf of Government.

He said that some of the issues should be handled by the relevant ministry and that it was not progressive to seek audience with the Head of State even on petty issues.

Rev Kaela said that the church cannot not summon the President to meet them whenever they felt like talking and on their terms.

“If the President says that at that time he is busy, that should not be an issue because it is a well-known fact that the highest office is very busy. Not even the church should summon the President on their terms. For some of the issues, it’s better to go through the Ministry of Religious Affairs” he said.

Meanwhile, Rev Kaela called on the general citizenry to respect the independence of the judiciary and that they should interfere in its operations. He observed that people had been commenting on matters that were before the courts.
