TRAFFICKING IN DRUGS

A DRUG Enforcement Commission officer has  testified in the Choma magistrate court how he and other officers caught three people suspected to have beeen selling cannabis.

In this matter, Chisoni Mwanza is charged  with trafficking in narcotic drugs contrary to section 15 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic substances Act.35 of the laws of Zambia as read together with statutory Instrument No. 119 of 1995.

Investigations Officer Andrew Tembo, of Choma, told the court that  on   November 10, 2021 he received information of a person  allegedly selling suspected cannabis at Horizon area in Choma. 

Mr Tembo narrated that he later found the suspect and three other people seated at Horizon area, with a bag pack and bowl which had suspected cannabis.

“Upon reaching, one person ran away but we picked one who had a bag and a bowl of cannabis and took the suspect to Choma Police station,” said Mr Tembo.

However, the accused person denied being the owner of the bowl and the bag during cross examination by the state.

Senior Resident Magistrate Peter Mungala adjourned the Matter to  December 6, 2021 for continuation of trial.
