GOVERNMENT will no longer allow foreign political leaders who come into the country to undermine the sovereignty of the state, Vice President Inonge Wina has said.

Ms Wina said Government had tolerated enough such people and that it was now time to act.

The Vice President said this in Parliament yesterday when responding to a question raised by Bwana Mkubwa Member of Parliament Jonas Chanda during the question time.

He wanted to find out Government’s stance on some foreign political leaders who come to Zambia to interfere in the internal affairs of the country and undermine the government, in collusion with some unpatriotic Zambians.

In her response, Ms Wina indicated that Zambia was a sovereign State; therefore Government would not allow outsiders to interfere in the country’s internal matters.

“On October 24, we celebrated our 53rd Independence anniversary and the theme for this year was ‘celebrating our freedom for continued peace, unity, patriotism and development.’ This was a befitting theme, because these are values that we hold dear to our hearts.

“But when we see foreign politicians who come to malign and discredit Government and we give them space. I think this is one of the few countries in the world where a political leader from another country can come into another country and say bad things about a government. But enough is enough, that will not be allowed to continue,” Ms Wina said.

She advised Zambian opposition political parties who were friends with such foreign political leaders to convey the message.

“The people who are friends to these people should tell them, but this Government will no longer allow visitors of such nature, they can go to other countries and carry out their activities but not in Zambia any longer.

“Government has been very open and democratic, that is why characters of that type come to this country and do what they do and get away with it,” she said.
