ACC seizes assets worth K756m

THE Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has revealed that in 2023, it seized assets and properties with an estimated valued of K756,  452, 853 during the course of their investigations and 19 vehicles forfeited to the state.

Speaking during the first quarter media briefing, ACC Head of Corporate Communication Timothy Moono said in 2023, ACC received 1, 037 reports of suspected corruption out of which 463 were not-corruption related.

Mr Moono said 574 reports contained elements of corruption but only 541 were authorised for investigations, 11 reports were referred to relevant institutions for action and eight reports were complaints authorised for corruption prevention exercise, two complaints were not authorised and 12 reports were still under deliberation during the close of the year.

He said ACC also closed 183 investigation cases and recorded 38 arrests, 17 convictions and five acquittals in the year under review.

Mr Moono also said the ACC was still investigating Mr Stanley Kakubo and when the investigations are done, the information will be availed to the public.

Mr Moono also said while ACC was resolved to tackle the corruption scourge, the task requires concerted efforts from the public.
