THE Lusaka magistrate court has sentenced former Deputy Inspector General of  Police, Charity Masambo Katanga to three years simple imprisonment in a case she pleaded not guilty to corrupt practices involving more than K26 million.

The matter is in relation with the ten Higar buses which have been properties reasonably suspected of being proceeds of crime.

Katanga was facing one count of possession of property reasonably suspected of being proceeds of crime contrary to section 71(1) of the forfeiture of the proceeds of crime Act No. 19 of 2010 of the laws of Zambia.

In rendering judgement yesterday, chief resident magistrate, Davies Chibwili ruled that the state prosecution led by senior state advocate under the Taxation and Financial Crimes Department at National Prosecution Authority (NPA) Mr. Mukuma Chilila Chipawa proved their case beyond reasonable doubts through their witnesses.

Magistrate Chibwili ruled that it was not in dispute that Katanga had a cordial and warm relationship with both state and defense witnesses when dealing with them according to their testimonies.CLICK HERE TO READ MORE.
