CHIPOLOPOLO defender Frankie Musonda believes Zambia has what it takes to overcome Group F rivals at the AFCON set to kick off on January 13 to February 11 in Ivory Coast.

Zambia will face stiff competition from 2022 World Cup semifinalists Morocco, neighbours Congo DR and Tanzania in Group F which Musonda described as a tough group.

In an interview with FAZ Media, the 26-year-old defender who features for Scottish Championship club Ayr United said the Chipolopolo will work hard as they prepare for the AFCON to be able to make the country proud.

“The group we are in is a very exciting group with tough opponents but that’s why we all qualified for this stage, every team is good, every team knows what they are doing so each game will be tough but again we believe we can win each game so we are excited we just have to concentrate,” Musonda said.

“We are going to work hard and I’m sure with the support from people back home and on social media, we hope to make people proud,” he said.

Zambia is in Taif, Saudi Arabia for a pre-AFCON camp and will play Cameroon on January 9 in a friendly.

Musonda said the camp in Saudi Arabia will help him to recover and adapt after missing the October international assignment due to injury.

“I’m really excited to be back. It’s unfortunate I got injured just before October and it carried on to November so I missed out but I have been back for six, seven weeks now and I’m excited to be back in camp,” Musonda said.

Musonda, who scored in his Chipolopolo debut as Zambia beat the Congo 3-1 on March 25, 2022, will be making his first AFCON appearance at the tournament.

After the camp in Saudi Arabia, the Chipolopolo will then head to San Pedro for their Group F assignments where they will kick start their tournament on January 17 against Congo DR.
