CONSTRUCTION of a multi-million dollar tractor assembling plant earmarked for Chipata will start next month, Mayor Sinoya Mwale has announced.
Mr Mwale said 10 hectares of land for the US$60 million plant to be constructed by Minsk Tractor Works of Belarus, Germany, was secured late last year.
“All that was needed is now in place for the construction to start According to the stated timeline of the project, we look forward to seeing the ground works start next month,” Mr. Mwale told the Daily Nation in an interview yesterday.
He explained that the project would put the province on the country’s economic map upon its completion and create not less than 500 jobs for the local community.
Mr. Mwale, said the plant would improve prospects of nurturing the agriculture sector adding that it would complement government’s efforts in reviving under-performing areas of the economy.
