FAZ technical director, Moses Sichone, has called for calm among fans following Wedson Nyirenda’s poor showing at the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Sichone said building a competitive team cannot be achieved overnight, adding that the Chipolopolo trainer was doing a tremendous job and only needed enough time to begin to record desirable results.

Speaking on Qtv Soccerchat programme on Wednesday night, Sichone said local coaches deserve the support of everyone for them to achieve results.

“Wedson Nyirenda is doing a tremendous job at the national team, and just needs enough time. It takes time to build a formidable side, it is not something one can achieve overnight, so fans should be patient and results will indeed show with time,” he said.

He dispelled assertions suggesting that Zambian coaches fail to tactically read a game which leads to bad results.

He said local coaches are as good as their foreign colleagues capable of winning titles.

Meanwhile, Sichone said the way a team plans for up-coming games had a bearing on the results.

“A match is won away from the pitch so how we prepare or plan for forthcoming games will have an impact on the results. This is one aspect we will look at ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup qualifiers,” he said.

He appealed to the corporate world to come on board and sponsor clubs for the sport to develop in Zambia.

And former Chipolopolo defender, Misheck Lungu, advised the current crop of players to induce passion in their career.

Lungu said he was expecting this generation to do better than previous teams because they have everything to their disposal.

“During our generation, there wasn’t much motivation but the passion for our country pushed us to work harder. So I expect this generation to do better than us because they are motivated with allowances and bonuses,” he said.
