SOCIALIST PARTY DEMANDS CANCELLATION OF TAX HOLIDAY FOR MINING FIRMS
By EVANS BANDA
The UPND government must reverse its decision of giving mining companies tax holiday, Socialist Party National Council Management Committee member Frank Bwlaya has demanded.
Zambia’s former High Commissioner to Australia, says government’s position does not benefit Zambians as it only favours minority investors.
He said the country does not need to depend on the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to sort out the current debt crisis when it can mobilise resources through meaningful tax collection.
He says Zambia is losing out huge resources through tax holidays which can be avoided.
Mr Bwalya says it is prudent for the government to reconsider its decision for the benefit of the country.
He also noted that the current leadership has continued to lie to the Zambian people with its fake promises, pointing out the issue of the highly talked about increase in the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) allocation.
He says CDF has done a disservice to the Zambian people because nothing tangible has come out.
