MURUNDU Government clinic in Kantanshi constituency of Mufulira district on the Copperbelt has been operating without an ablution bock and running water for the past 10 years.

Apart from that, the clinic, which was opened over 10 years ago when Yamfwa Mukanga was area Member of Parliament (MP), has no maternity wing and mortuary unit.

Kantanshi MP Anthony Mumba said he was saddened and disappointed that a clinic which has been operating for more than 10 years did not have those facilities.

During the tour of the clinic, Mr Mumba said he would engage the Ministry of Health to improve the infrastructure at the institution. He pledged to use his personal resources to ensure that water supply was immediately connected to the clinic.

“This is unacceptable; you can’t have a clinic operating without running water and ablution block. It is unacceptable that infrastructure at Murundu clinic has never been upgraded since 12 years ago when it was opened.

‘‘But I will use my personal resources to ensure that water supply is immediately connected to the clinic. I will also engage the Ministry of Health to improve the infrastructure at the clinic,” Mr Mumba said.

And Copperbelt Province medical officer Consita Mwale promised that his office will urgently look into the challenges that Murundu clinic was facing.

And Murundu ward councillor Mambwe Musakalu has urged Government to consider expanding the clinic.

Mr. Musakalu said the entire population around Murundu farming block depended on the clinic and it was therefore imperative that the clinic infrastructure was upgraded.
