Mufumbwe DC calls unit, development

By Jackson Mapapayi

The people of Mufumbwe district have been urged to promote unity and peace in the area in order to foster development.

Mufumbwe District Commissioner, Elija Munyompe, has said he does not hold any grudge with anyone in the district following recent protests by some residents over his appointment.

Recently, President Hakainde Hichilema revoked the appointment of Patrick Kalelemba as District Commissioner for Mufumbwe barely two months in office and replaced him with Mr Munyompe a move which sparked a protest by some residents.
Speaking in an interview, Mr Munyompe said he holds no grudge against anyone in the district and will work towards uniting the people to accelerate development in the area.

Mr Munyompe also dispelled assertions that Chief Chizela of the Kaonde people in the district had rejected his appointment as the new district commissioner.

He said to the contrary, the traditional leader had endorsed his appointment and he is enjoying a cordial working relationship with the royal establishment.
“I just want to appeal to the people of Mufumbwe that let us bury our differences and unite as a people for the betterment of our district.

“It was very unfortunate that some people wanted to drag the name of our chief into politics to use him to challenge the decision of the appointing authority but I can tell you that I am working with him very well and he has actually endorsed my appointment,” Mr Munyompe said.

He said as a leader, he understands that not everyone was happy with his appointment because of petty jealous but he will embrace everyone including those who opposed his appointment.

“For me I will work with everyone including those who didn’t support my appointment but I want to appeal to our people to always respect the decisions of the appointing authority and help our beloved President Hakainde Hichilema deliver to the people of Zambia,” he said.

Mr Munyompe has appealed to the people in the district who love and respect President Hichilema to work with the people he has appointed in various positions to help him realize his vision of delivering a better Zambia for all.

He said he will run an open door policy to allow for ideas on how best to lobby for development and give room to constructive criticism.
